CISDI’s blast furnace for Vietnam's Formosa Ha Tinh Steel plant - which is beating all design indicators - has won gold in a prestigious award.

China’s Association of Construction Enterprise Management awarded it the nation’s accolade for outstanding construction quality.

The awards, for outstanding projects in 2020-21, are held every two years and represent China’s highest ranking of construction quality.

Running since their launch in 1981 with the backing of China’s State Council, the awards were held in Beijing and this year the prizes were presented by video link.

FHS’s plant is the world’s largest Greenfield steel complex. There are two blast furnaces at its core plant, each with a 4,350 cubic metre volume. They were the first mega blast furnaces to be exported from China.

Built by CISDI to an EPC mode, they now outperform their technical and economic indicators.

They feature a number of patented CISDI tech and equipment:

-      critical technology for high-efficiency, low-consumption mega blast furnace ironmaking, which was recently awarded second prize in China’s national S&T advancements.

-      No-bell Top featuring parallel hoppers, to replace those imported from Europe.

Over 95 per cent of equipment used in this metallurgical project is Chinese-manufactured - the highest ratio outside China. It is performing with state-of-the-art indicators.

Furnaces are showing strong energy conservation figures and stable product quality and have been operating safely and reliably since their start-up.

-      140,000 tonnes of raw coals saved each year

-      a 600,000 tonne reduction in carbon dioxide emissions each year

-      water recycling ratio of 98.1 per cent

-      solid waste recycling ratio of 99.9 per cent

-      total savings of US$ 89 -104 million a year.
