CISDI has formed an alliance with four leading Chinese companies to create a hydrogen metallurgy strategic league.

The league was formed in the wake of China’s Hydrogen Metallurgy Summit 2020, which was held in Tianjin.

CISDI’s four fellow members are Tianjin Rongcheng United Steel, the Northeastern University, Sinopec Tianjin and Shaanxi Blower Group.

The companies have pledged to work closely together to develop hydrogen injection into the blast furnace ironmaking process and hydrogen shaft furnace tech.

An industrial demo project for hydrogen metallurgy is also a major goal in the near future.

Multiple CISDI experts spoke at the summit. Their focus was on production scale, energy consumption, investment and emissions and optimal process routes for green, low-carbon metallurgy.

A round table staged during the summit discussed a range of hot topics, including technology routes, hydrogen preparation and transport, hydrogen energy and steel-chemical co-production.
