Three rebuilt basic oxygen furnaces at Chongqing Steel are now operating faster and more efficiently.

CISDI was the EPC-based contractor and BOF 6, the last of the three to be revamped, has now been started up.

BOFs 5, 6 and 7, each with a volume of 80 tonnes, will now operate with an average tap-to-tap cycle time of 25 minutes, some eight minutes faster. Steelmaking production efficiency will be improved.

CISDI’s intelligent steelmaking and sub-lance system iLance has been installed for each furnace, upgrading its process and end-point controls. As a result, melting efficiency will be increased and production costs decreased.

An extra 33 display screens have been added to the central control room for the BOFs.

The steelmaking shop at Chongqing Steel, which is based in China’s Chongqing municipality, also has two KR desulphurisation units, three argon-blowing and wire-feeding stations, two ladle furnaces and one VD refining furnace.
