3R low-carbon blast furnace tech, a global CISDI first, is achieving game-changing results

CISDI’s C-H reducing, reusing and recycling low-carbon tech 3R is now setting an important milestone in reducing carbon in the blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace process at Hebei Zongheng Steel.

The invention means conventional, gas-fueled energy systems for blast furnaces can become a thing of the past, and plays a big part in the transformation from procedure-based carbon recycling to flow-based.

3R has reduced each furnace’s fuel ratio by 20 to 30kg per tonne of hot metal, based on a 5kg per tonne decrease in coke ratio to 8kg/t.

Its average gas replacement ratio ranges from 0.35 to 0.6kg per cubic metre, which is equivalent to a carbon reduction of around 10 per cent, compared with China’s conventional furnaces of the same volume.

3R will bring about an annual carbon emissions reduction of 500,000 tonnes and help save production costs of US$1.40-4.19 per tonne of hot metal, totalling an annual cost reduction of US$ 31.97 million.
