A ‘holistic floating up’ method has been used to install the piston and top system of a coke oven gas holder at Dazhou Steel in China’s Sichuan Province.

As part of Dazhou’s relocation and upgrading programme, the 100,000 cubic metre-volume COG holder is being built by CISDI to an EPC mode, together with a 200,000 cubic metre-volume blast furnace holder and a 120,000 cubic metre LDG holder.

The COG holder’s body measures 83m in height, has an inner diameter of 47m and a storage pressure of 7.5 kilopascals.

It features CISDI’s POC single-section membrane holder (piston, oil seal and cylindrical shell).

The COG holder will achieve higher pressure and stabler piston running and will have a longer service life, factors which, combined with its large volume and huge throughput capability, will achieve higher performance standards at Dazhou.

Key benefits:

smart capabilities mean no onsite attendants are required

automatic alarming, interlocking and remote centralised control

a safety instrumented system (SIS) and programmable logic controller (PLC) give fast, one-touch shutdown, ensuring safer, stabler operation.
