Achieving green and smart zero liquid discharge

Audiences at the 13th Biennial Meeting of Chinese Society for Metals learned how CISDI is paving the way to a greener future for the Chinese steel sector’s water usage.

“A greener, smarter chapter in achieving zero liquid discharge targets is opening up. We are working on the development of a revolutionary new water resource regeneration centre and a centralised control platform,” Xiaowei Zhang, CISDI’s expert on water treatment systems, told people attending the video-link session.

In his speech, ‘Top-level design and smart tech empowering China’s ZLD achievements’, Mr Zhang detailed the many highly successful projects CISDI has achieved in steel sectoral waste water treatment processes during its 60-plus years at the forefront of engineering and core tech developments.

His explanation of the progress being made in designing a ‘world-leading green, smart, safe and harmonious’ water resource regeneration centre to meet ZLD construction targets got a great deal of attention.

Another CISDI expert, Lixiang Qiu, reported his thinking on the development of a centralised water treatment control platform. He took Baosteel Zhanjiang’s application of CISDI’s industrial internet-based centralised water control platform as an example.

A world-first and heralded as a future trend in innovative water system management, the platform has achieved real-time, dynamic balances and comprehensive control for all processes in the plant’s water treatment system.

Centralised control solves complicated system problems and makes a steel plant’s water system super efficient, substantially reducing water consumption.

CISDI has been developing world-leading ZLD tech and applications since 2010. It has already enabled China’s Baowu Bayi Steel, Chongqing Steel and Hebei Jingye Group to achieve ZLD targets.

Its partnership with Baosteel Zhanjiang led to CISDI increasing its expertise in transformations - from deep sea waste-water discharging and near zero emissions to salt recovery crystallisation ZLD.

Zenith Nantong achieved ZLD targets in mid 2022 and became a benchmark for salt recovery crystallisation expertise in China’s green steel sector.
