CISDI expertise supports construction and hot commissioning at JISCO’s steelmaking and continuous casting plants

Three sequence heats have been melted successfully at Hongxing’s BOF2.

The steelmaking and continuous casting plant operates under Jiuquan Iron and Steel Co in China’s Guangxi Province.

Two ladle furnaces and one 7-strand billet caster went operational in line with the BOF, signaling completion of CISDI’s steelmaking and continuous casting plant build, to an EPC mode.

JISCO’s melting and rolling upgrades and product mix optimisation is projected to produce 2.30 million tonnes of qualified billets and 1.20 million tonnes of heavy plates a year. It will improve the proportion of flat products in a bid to better serve the new energy and new green materials sectors.

The programme encompasses one KR-process desulphurisation system, two 100-tonne BOFs, two LFs, one 7-strand billet caster, one single-strand slab caster, one 4,200mm-specification heavy plate rolling line, one heavy plate heat treatment line, utilities and auxiliary facilities.

CISDI broke ground on the project in February 2024 and completed construction in 14 months, a month ahead of the contractual schedule. CISDI played a leading role as the EPC-based service provider, coordinating all partners and overcoming construction challenges during a four-month winter period.

“CISDI has supported us in the creation of a model steelmaking and continuous casting project. Its team ensured work was carried out in a safe and efficient manner and to high standards,” commented a spokesperson from JISCO.

CISDI applied the forward 3D design method to ensure optimal engineering quality.

CISDI’s Qingcheng smart construction platform enabled digital designs to be actualised during construction. Utilising the Qingcheng mobile application, construction staff were able to scan QR codes to read the models, receive early warnings of design drawing revisions and obtain support for onsite pipe work.

CISDI will continue its service to the JISCO programme, which is designed to boost the Northwestern steel giant’s high-end production, smart manufacturing and green transformation.
